Course Information

Sheffield Perineal Repair Course has only 18 places. Please register online to attend and pay on telephone calling 01142 268 180. You will be allocated a place on a “first come, first served” basis. If you are a Yorkshire & Humber Deanery trainee then register via Max Course.

Course content

The full course programme will last the whole day and include three modes of learning – the theoretical, audio/visual, and workshop portions: 

Theoretical

  • Types of perineal tears & the outcome of repairs from the available evidence
  • Risk management issues
  • Role of the perneal trauma clinic
  • Management of established faecal incontinence
  • Management of persistent tears & faecal incontinence
  • Anatomy of perieum, pelvic floor & anal canal
  • Methods of repair using perineal trainers

Audio Visual Images

Live video demonstration of anal sphincter anatomy and perineal body and demonstration of repair of 4th degree tear

Workshop

Suturing perineal tears on perineal trainers and animal model

You must stay until the end of the course programme in order to complete the assessment and obtain the certificate.
